Message from the Principal

I am delighted to welcome you to Govt. Graduate College, Abdullahpur, Faisalabad. Formerly known as Govt. College of Commerce, GGCA stands today as a premier institution for Commerce, Economics, Finance, Accounting, and is now expanding its academic scope to include Social Sciences.

It has been my privilege to serve this esteemed institution for several decades. During this long association, I have witnessed GGCA grow, evolve, and consistently uphold its reputation for academic excellence and moral discipline.

Nestled in the heart of Faisalabad, our college provides a beautiful, serene, and safe environment. A well-equipped campus, dedicated faculty, and strong emphasis on discipline create ideal conditions for academic pursuits, sports, and co-curricular activities.

Over the years, GGCA has produced young entrepreneurs and professional executives who are serving the commercial and industrial sectors with distinction. We take pride in the fact that our students come from all parts of Faisalabad and from other cities as well, representing a broad cross-section of society. This diversity makes GGCA a true center of learning and social harmony.

Since my induction as Principal, my focus, along with the sincere efforts of our worthy professors, has been to provide students with an environment conducive to both academic success and character building. We believe that education without moral values is merely the pursuit of grades. Therefore, instilling faith, integrity, respect for rules, hard work, and a sense of responsibility in our students remains central to our mission.

We are aware of our financial constraints and limited resources. Yet, with the grace of Allah and the support of our staff, we remain committed to improving infrastructure and services. Recent developments include the renovation of classrooms, restructuring of the college library and computer lab, and the establishment of a Quality Enhancement Cell (QEC) for continuous academic improvement.

At GGCA, we aim to develop confident, caring, and responsible citizens who seek knowledge through honest means and serve humanity with dedication. I pray that Allah grants us the strength to continue this noble journey.

I welcome you to join this proud institution and be a part of its future.

Faisalabad, formerly known as Lyallpur, had flourished into an industrial and commercial centre before the partition. After Independence in 1947, the process of large-scale industrialization started, and the need for commercial and financial education was strongly felt ever since. At that time, there was no institution in the whole of the Punjab to impart commerce education at Inter and Degree levels. The Hailey College of Commerce, Lahore, was the only institution imparting commerce education on a very limited scale. In 1958 the Municipal Committee Lyallpur started I.Com classes at the Municipal College in the building of defunct "The khalsa College", Lyallpur. The commerce students approached the city elders with the request to start a college which could provide commerce education at the B.Com level.

They pleaded the need for commerce and industry in the city and the province. In 1963, the then Municipal Committee Lyallpur agreed to establish the Municipal College of Commerce Lyallpur which was later on named as Govt. College of Commerce, Faisalabad and has now been nomenclatured as Government Graduate College Faisalabad in the year 2020. The Vice Chairman of the Municipal Committee, Lyallpur Brigadier Abdul Rasheed Khan, performed the college's opening ceremony on the 2nd of January 1964. The college started functioning regularly on the same day in the classrooms of the Municipal College, Lyallpur. In 1968, the college was shifted to its existing building constructed by the Municipal Committee. In 1969, Mian Muhammad Rafique Sahgal, a well-known industrialist of the city, donated a 28-cubical-room hostel to the college. Keeping in view the demand of the community to impart commerce education to those students who could not study in the morning classes due to multifarious engagements, i.e. employment, etc., the second shift of B.Com Part-I classes was started in the college in 2004. We at Government College of Commerce, Faisalabad, believe that female education is part and parcel of national development, and we always provide the best possible opportunities to facilitate female students. For this purpose, girls are studying in separate sections and on totally separate campuses. They are always encouraged to participate in extracurricular and co-curricular activities.
