Message from the Principal

I am delighted to welcome you to Govt. Graduate College, Abdullahpur, Faisalabad, (GGCA) (formerly known as Govt. College of Commerce). This premier institution for the education of Commerce, Economics, Finance and Accounting is my Alma matter. Thus, I think, more than anyone else, I am capable of judging the worth of this prestigious institution from a student’s point of view. Located in the heart of Faisalabad, GGCA provides a very beautiful, serene and safe environment. This, combined with a thoroughly equipped campus, provides ideal conditions for academic, sports and co-curricular activities.

The GGCA has long been producing young entrepreneurs as well as professional executives to serve the commercial and industrial world. At present, the institution is broadening its academic space by introducing more disciplines in social sciences. We are proud and gratified that our students come from all over Faisalabad and even from other cities and represent a broad cross-section of society, making GGCA a place of real learning and social interaction.

Since the time of my induction as principal of this esteemed institution, I have made every possible effort, along with my staff of worthy professors, to provide the students with a favourable environment for optimum academic performance. We believe education without character building is merely a pursuit of grades. Hence, instilling high moral values, developing a wholesome personality and awareness of societal obligations in our students are central to our preferences. Being acutely aware of our obligation, we utilize our best potential and endeavour to accomplish this important task. We are aware of our meagre resources and financial constraints, but despite these impediments, we are more committed than ever to ensuring a well-equipped infrastructure and a very cooperative administrative system for the betterment of our students. I would like to take this opportunity to point to some of the developments recently made on the college campus. It includes the renovation of classrooms, restructuring and refurbishing of the college library and computer lab, and establishment of a Quality Enhancement Cell (QEC), to name a few.

The sense of discipline and respect for rules is a great strength of the College. We are committed to ensuring it along with inculcating in the young minds belief in hard work and achievements through honest and fair means. At GGCA, we aim to encourage a never-ending quest for knowledge among our students and develop their characters as confident, caring, dignified and responsible citizens. I hope this rich learning environment where all teachers devotedly and tirelessly utilize every opportunity to impart knowledge will surely prove a unique and the most fruitful learning experience for you.

Faisalabad, formerly known as Lyallpur, had flourished into an industrial and commercial centre before the partition. After Independence in 1947, the process of large-scale industrialization started, and the need for commercial and financial education was strongly felt ever since. At that time, there was no institution in the whole of the Punjab to impart commerce education at Inter and Degree levels. The Hailey College of Commerce, Lahore, was the only institution imparting commerce education on a very limited scale. In 1958 the Municipal Committee Lyallpur started I.Com classes at the Municipal College in the building of defunct "The khalsa College", Lyallpur. The commerce students approached the city elders with the request to start a college which could provide commerce education at the B.Com level.

They pleaded the need for commerce and industry in the city and the province. In 1963, the then Municipal Committee Lyallpur agreed to establish the Municipal College of Commerce Lyallpur which was later on named as Govt. College of Commerce, Faisalabad and has now been nomenclatured as Government Graduate College Faisalabad in the year 2020. The Vice Chairman of the Municipal Committee, Lyallpur Brigadier Abdul Rasheed Khan, performed the college's opening ceremony on the 2nd of January 1964. The college started functioning regularly on the same day in the classrooms of the Municipal College, Lyallpur. In 1968, the college was shifted to its existing building constructed by the Municipal Committee. In 1969, Mian Muhammad Rafique Sahgal, a well-known industrialist of the city, donated a 28-cubical-room hostel to the college. Keeping in view the demand of the community to impart commerce education to those students who could not study in the morning classes due to multifarious engagements, i.e. employment, etc., the second shift of B.Com Part-I classes was started in the college in 2004. We at Government College of Commerce, Faisalabad, believe that female education is part and parcel of national development, and we always provide the best possible opportunities to facilitate female students. For this purpose, girls are studying in separate sections and on totally separate campuses. They are always encouraged to participate in extracurricular and co-curricular activities.
